Mainframe was my very first Game Jam game. With the prompt vision we decided to go with the concept that you are a hacker trying to get your way through a mainframe, the dark squares are safe and the light squares are where “big brother” can see that you are trying to get in. For me, this experience was quite an eye-opening one. I had to put my programming and design skills to the test. Quickly iterating on anything that wasn’t working. In the end, we developed a few mechanics such as switches that turn a cell the opposite of what it is (light to dark or vice versa) and a square that gives you back lives. Using these two main mechanics my teammates and I were able to make many variations or challenges in a short period of time. Allowing us to get first place in the game jam.
